About The Program

Internships are paid positions.

We will be accepting up to:

  • 4 interns for the Spring Break Program

  • 2 interns for the month of June in the Summer Program

(Acceptance to the Summer Program is not contingent upon participation in the Spring Break Program.)

Interns will learn, gain experience in, and be responsible for the following:

  • Time management and execution of scheduled activities at ranch level

  • Herd and forage management and outcomes

  • Execution of infrastructure and equipment management

  • Ranch quality of life conditions and outcomes

We can only accept interns ages 18 and above

On-Site Housing

To accommodate for our ever-changing numbers of employees, guests, and interns, we use a selection of yurts. Interns will live in either a single-bed or bunkhouse yurt for the duration of the stay.

Individual yurts include:

  • Beds / bedding

  • Chairs & table

  • Electric outlets

  • Wardrobes with hangers

The community kitchen and bathhouse yurts have running hot and cold water, taken from our property well, which is safe to drink

Wi-Fi is located in the kitchen yurt, and occasionally reaches the individual yurts, but is highly variable depending on weather. Cell service is spotty throughout the area.

About the Work Environment

We are currently using Holistic Management of livestock to transition 2,740 acres of cropland back to native prairie.

The location is in Western Kansas, which is a dry, arid environment frequented by many types of wildlife such as rattlesnakes and porcupines.

The region is subject to harsh weather extremes, including but not limited to:

  • Temperatures over 95 and below 0 degrees fahrenheit

  • Wind exceeding 50mph (up to 90)

  • Dust storms

  • Rain/snow/hail

  • Tornadoes

  • Potential wildfires and associated smoke

Majority of work takes place outdoors, the varying conditions, and may involve frequent, varying levels of physical and mental exertion.

There may be times interns will be living and working alone. Cellphone service is limited, and the closest hospital 45 minutes away.

Due to these factors, safety and caution are critical considerations for the company and all potential employees.

Sample Day-to-Day Tasks

Life on the ranch can change quickly, meaning any given day may contain aspects of the following:

  • Office & administrative tasks (submitting receipts, ranch timesheets, Holistic Planned Grazing, etc)

  • Collection & reporting of data

  • Livestock handling including working, health checks, moving based on grazing plans

  • Infrastructure maintenance including building and taking down of electric fence subdivisions

  • General vehicle and equipment maintenance and repairs

  • Community networking and serving as point-of-contact when Ranch Manager is off-site

  • Participate and contribute in regular team meetings and planning calls.

  • Contribute personal specialties, talents, gifts and passions to enhance the greater  whole of the ranch site and company mission

  • Ongoing learning and application of Holistic Management.
